Automating a slow strategy feels wrong and works fine

Everyone automates because they want speed. I automated because I kept missing my own signals. I'd be in a meeting, or I'd talk myself out of an entry that met every condition I'd written down. The bot takes maybe two trades a week. It is boring to watch. That's the point. The value wasn't reaction time, it was removing me from the decision after I'd already made it.

"Removing me from the decision after I'd already made it" is the cleanest description of why automation helps that I've read here.

Two trades a week and you still needed a computer for it. I say that with respect, genuinely. Discipline is the hard part, not the code.

The sizing side of this is worth saying out loud: at two trades a week you get roughly a hundred a year, which is a small sample to judge an edge from. So each position's fraction matters more than it does for someone taking twenty a day. One oversized loss is a bigger chunk of your yearly sample. I'd rather see a slow strategy at half the size the maths says is optimal, because the optimal fraction is calculated off a win rate you only think you know.

Does the bot handle your exits too, or do you still close by hand? That's where my rules fall apart.

@LurkerLee it does both, and honestly the exits were the bigger fix. Entries I was only missing. Exits I was actively sabotaging — sitting there watching, moving the target because it 'felt strong'. Now I find out later. Much calmer life than the day trade crowd, who as far as I can tell are just paying for adrenaline with extra steps.

Ha, coming from the fast end of the room. The exit thing is EXACTLY the same for me!! I'm in and out all day but the code owns my stops, no exceptions, because I know what I'm like when a name is ripping. Speed isn't the point, not being able to argue with yourself is!
