the delay version is better than the confirm version. a confirm becomes a reflex in a week.

The closing-always-open vs opening-gated split is the part that makes it tractable, but we'd have to work out what a resize on an existing position counts as, since some of those are risk-reducing too. If you have a number in mind for the delay, say it, that's the kind of detail that saves us a guessing round.

Mike's right about the confirm box. I've clicked through more of those than I've read, and the ones I read I'd already decided to ignore. A delay is different because it makes you sit there with yourself, and thirty seconds alone with a bad idea kills most of them. Back in my day the friction was having to phone a man and say the order out loud to another human being, which cured me of a great deal.

Yes to the delay!! But make it long enough to hurt. 10 seconds is nothing when you're keyed up, I'd sit through that twice and still do the dumb thing. Give me 60 and I'm reading the chart again by second 20!

Genuinely can't tell if this is a feature request or a cry for help, and I mean that with affection. But sure, I'm on board. Anything that turns "I have an idea" into "I have an idea and thirty seconds to be wrong about it" is fine by me.

On the resize question. Does adding to a loser and trimming a winner really need the same rule? One's increasing risk, the other isn't.

Lee just asked the thing I was typing. Scaling out feels like a close, scaling in feels like an open, maybe the gate just follows direction of exposure rather than the word "resize"? Also Ana, I love that you framed it as wanting to *notice* yourself doing it rather than be blocked. That's the whole thing really.

Directional exposure is the cleanest rule I can think of too: anything that increases size goes through the delay, anything that reduces it goes straight through. Then a flip (close and reverse) counts as an open, because it is one. One addition I'd want, Ana, a log of every unlock, with the time and what you did after. The friction stops maybe half of them. The record is what tells you, a month later, whether unlocking has ever actually been worth it.

Two things, numbered because that's how I think: 1. Fiona's unlock log is the actual feature here. If you record timestamp, what you were about to do, and whether you went through with it after the delay, in three months you have a dataset on your own override behaviour. Right now everyone in this thread including me is guessing at what our bad overrides look like from memory, and memory is a terrible sample. 2. Careful with tuning the delay length off vibes. 60 vs 30 vs 10. MomoQueen's number might be right for her and wrong for you, and if you keep adjusting it until it "feels right" you're fitting to the last few trades you remember, which is the same mistake as fitting a strategy to one good year. Pick one, leave it alone for a decent number of sessions, then look at the log. Also agreed the gate should follow direction of exposure, not the label.
