Know which order types your broker actually supports natively
Some order types you can select are simulated by the platform rather than held at the exchange. Functionally similar, meaningfully different when things go wrong.
A native resting order survives your connection dropping. A simulated one lives in software, if the software isn't running, it isn't there.
This matters most for protective orders. Worth finding out, per broker, which of your exits would still exist if your machine died mid-trade. I assumed wrong on one of mine for a long time.
